Dr Chi Zhou

The OWIL Lab is led by Dr. Chi Zhou. Dr. Zhou joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2006. She received two B.S. degrees in both Automation and Business Administration from Tsinghua University, China, in 1997.She received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northwestern University in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Between 2002 and 2006, she worked in Florida International University as assistant professor. Since 2006, she has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology. Her primary research interests include wireless sensor networks for smart grid application, scheduling for OFMA/MIMO systems, network coding for wireless mesh networks, and integration of optical and wireless networks..

Mohamad received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering form K. N. Toosi and Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He was a teaching assistant in Sharif University of technology from 2004 to 2006. Currently he is a Ph.D. Candidate at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. His research interests include wireless communication networks, resource allocation in multi user, multi carrier networks, the application of optimization and game theory to network design and analysis and admission control. He is a student member of IEEE Society

Bin Guo

Research Interests:

Current research interests focus on network coding analysis and applications in wireless networks, including:

  • Coding-aware routing scheme design and analysis.
  • Network coding in cooperative communications.

Bin Guo received his B.S. degree in Information Engineering from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, in 2004, and M.S. degree in Digital Communication from Chalmers University of Technology (CTH) in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2008.  He is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at IIT. He was a telecom engineer in Amdocs (China) in Beijing during 2004-2006; and was engineer in Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication in Stockholm during 2007-2008.

Abiodun Iwayemi

Abiodun Iwayemi, received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He was employed as a WCDMA Core Network Engineer at Huawei Technologies between 2004 and 2007, and rose to become project manager of Huawei's first end to end WCDMA network in West Africa, a project spanning 4 cities with an equipment cost of $5 Million. He won the Huawei Outstanding Employee Award, (South Africa Region) in 2005 and the Huawei regional office quarterly evaluation Prize 2006. He obtained his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2009, and is currently a PhD student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. His research interests lie in residential energy management, non-intrusive appliance load monitoring, wireless sensor networks for smart grid applications, and network science applications for critical infrastructure protection.

Yu Liu received his B.S. degree in electrical and information engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing, China, in 2005, and his M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 2007. He is now a Ph.D. student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in IIT. He is currently focusing on network coding in wireless network applications, protocol design with network coding in peer-to-peer networks, and energy efficiency with network coding in wireless network.  He worked as a Research Assistant at NEC Laboratories America in Princeton, New Jersey, from January to July 2008.

Gina Martinez

Gina received her B.S. degree in computer engineering from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and her M.S. degree in computer engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). She is currently a Ph.D. student of the ECE department at IIT. Gina is the recipient of IIT's 2011 Fieldhouse Research Fellowship award.

 

Mandana Noorozi

Mandana received her B.S. degree from Shiraz University at 2005 and a Masters at Malek Ashtar University of Technology at Tehran. Her research was on Wireless Sensor Network, and the topic of her MS thesis was "Increasing lifetime in wireless Directional Sensor Network" . Her research interest are in wireless network, detection and estimation, cognitive radio users’ management in communication systems.

Farhad Tavassoli

Farhad has received his BS and MS from Sharif University of Technology and Iran University of Technology, respectively. Currently he is studying his PhD at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago where he also serves as a research assistant. His main research area is signal processing application in wireless communications. From 2005 to 2008, he was a senior telecommunication engineer and a project manager at Utility Information System (UIS) in Dubai. At UIS, he was involved in several projects related to different areas in wireless communications such as VHF, UHF, microwave, and spread spectrum systems. He won Iran Telecommunication Research Center award for his MS thesis on beamforming for CDMA communication systems in 2005. He also won the Selected Engineer of The Year award at UIS twice in 2006 and 2007.  Farhad is a member of IEEE Communication and Vehicular Technology societies.

Peizhong Yi received her B.S. degree in Telecommunication from Xi'dian University, Xi'an, China, in 2007, and her M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, Illinois, in 2009. She is current working toward her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering Department specializing in communication networks (particularly wireless sensor network) for power system in IIT. Her Ph.D. research concentrated on design interference avoidance techniques of ZigBee and WiFi, design and develop self-forming and self-healing cluster-tree ZigBee network for smart grid system.She is also an IEEE student member.
